Your CEREC® Dentist in Alabaster

Dr. Joseph Zanthos is a certified CEREC® dentist in Alabaster. He uses CEREC® technology to design and create dental crowns for teeth that are broken down due to old fillings, tooth decay or damage from trauma or teeth grinding (bruxism).

What is CEREC®?

CEREC® (Ceramic ReConstruction) is a computerized system that provides Dr. Zanthos with the tools to create ceramic dental restorations in the comfort of the Premier Family Dental of Alabaster facility.

Using a patented combination of 3D imaging and CAD-CAM technology (computer aided design and manufacturing), CEREC® converts a picture of your tooth to a virtual model so Dr. Zanthos can make your final crown in one appointment.

What is CEREC® Actually?

How CEREC® works:

  • After preparing the tooth surface for a crown restoration, Dr. Zanthos digitally scans the area using the CEREC® camera.

  • Dr. Zanthos shapes and contours the crown in the CEREC® software based on your bite and esthetic requirements.

  • The completed design is electronically transmitted to the CEREC® milling device.

  • The CEREC® mill digital cutting technology precisely carves your finished crown based on Dr. Zanthos' specifications while you wait.

  • After the milling process is complete, Dr. Zanthos will bond your crown in place to cover and protect the tooth.

  • The entire process takes a little over an hour and you leave with a permanent dental crown that blends beautifully with your smile.

How are CEREC® Crowns different?

While CEREC® crowns use the same ceramic materials as most traditional laboratory-fabricated crowns, the same-day crown process offers advantages:

  • Messy dental impression materials are a thing of the past with CEREC®. The CEREC® camera creates a ‘digital impression’ of your tooth to capture the necessary details to design your crown.

  • There is no need for a temporary crown with CEREC® as with traditional dental crowns. You don't have to wait weeks for your permanent crown, with CEREC®, you receive your final crown in a little over an hour.

Am I a candidate for a CEREC® Crown?

If a dentist has recommended a crown for you in the past, or if you have a large, broken filling that you suspect needs a crown, you may be a candidate for CEREC® dentistry. The best way to receive a thorough assessment of your dental needs is to schedule a complete dental examination with Dr. Zanthos. He will check your teeth and gums to determine the best restoration for your tooth and overall recommendations to protect your oral health.

Patient Review

My old dentist retired, and I was really dreading finding a new one. I am so happy to have found this dentist and his staff! Everyone there is so nice and they really care about their patients. Dr. Zanthos is so nice and professional, and has such a calm and patient manner. My husband started going here, as well, and we will refer this dental office to all our family and friends.
